WHO WE ARE
We are an amateur company who set professional standards for all our work, involving professionals in our productions, courses, and other teaching and workshop opportunities.
We are based in Chelmsford, our members being drawn from Essex and the surrounding areas.
We are NOT a dance school, but a not for profit organisation whose dedicated team members are all volunteers.
We aim to:-
Promote and stimulate interest in ballet and other forms of dance
Give public and private performances
Provide experience and training in ballet and other dance disciplines in addition to that already being received in regular dance classes
WHAT WE DO
We stage a major production annually at the Civic Theatre, Chelmsford. The Company has a large Repertoire which includes:
The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Napoli, Pineapple Poll, Petroushka, La Boutique Fantasque, La Fille Mal Gardée, Tales from Beatrix Potter, Les Sylphides, Coppelia, Cinderella.
We do not neglect Modern dance and the following items were specially commissioned for the Company:
The Great Gatsby, Forty Years On, (a celebration of 40 years of the Ballet Company), Monochrome Moves (an insight into silent movies)
In 1999 we celebrated our Golden Jubilee with a triple bill which included: Beat Bop Boogie (a fun look back over the last 50 years of music)
In 2009 our Diamond Jubilee Production of The Sleeping Beauty, won critical acclaim.
The Company's own Artistic Director --Â Annette Potter, choreographed CINDERELLA in 2010 set to music by Glazunov.
In 2011 another specially commissioned piece "Nightclub Express" was presented to complement our highly acclaimed production of "The Tales of Beatrix Potter".
In addition to the main theatre run we hold an annual "Lets Make a Ballet" day in which younger dancers can experience choreography, costume and performance to an invited audience.
Monthly Company classes are now being offered both as a way to enable the Company to meet regularly throughout the year in the studio, and as an opportunity to take a non-syllabus class with a variety of distinguished and experienced teachers.
Non-members are welcome to attend, with members being offered a discounted rate. These are a good opportunity to meet other Company members should you be considering auditioning for dancing membership or just wish to experience non-syllabus work. The classes are intended to complement and not replace existing dance classes attended.
