The Trust will have the following charitable purposes:
To reinstate and reintroduce high quality G&S performances to Dunedin with the intention of presenting the full cycle of the thirteen surviving Gilbert and Sullivan operas in chronological sequence over a number of years.
To offer authentic productions at the highest artistic level possible and to perform with professional orchestral support.
To stage the works imaginatively but with total respect for the original text and music as well as for the spirit of traditional G&S style.
To use unpaid local talent as far as possible, but with associated professional input where necessary or desirable.
To build up a body of experienced G&S performers in Dunedin who can maintain the G&S tradition for future generations.
To establish the G&S repertoire for a generation that may not have had the opportunity to be involved either as performers or as members of the audience.
To contribute to the image of Dunedin as a specialist centre for artistic work, and to celebrate a Victorian heritage that is part of the city's identity.
To carry on any other charitable object which may seem to the Trustees capable of being conveniently carried on or calculated directly or indirectly to advance the objects of the Trust Deed, provided that all funds expended must be for or lead to public benefit in New Zealand.
