Marco and Giuseppe are the likely lads of Venice -chasing the girls, fleecing the tourists and having fun with the lads. They were brought up as brothers, and are proud to be gondoliers and comrades in the Republican cause. But when they find that one of them - no one knows which - is king of a wealthy tropical island, they and their new wives, Tessa and Gianetta, are happy to drop their socialist scruples for the chance of a life of fame and luxury. In the background is the Grand Inquisitor of Venice, who knows the whole truth, and the Duke of Plaza-Toro and his ambitious wife and daughter, looking for a piece of the action. How will it all turn out? Who is the real king? Come and find out and enjoy at the same time the sparkling wit of W S Gilbert and the joyous music of Arthur Sullivan, in this adventurous new production.
