Princess Ida or Castle Adamant was based on Gilbert’s earlier play The Princess in typical G&S style the story unfolds when it is discovered that Prince Hilarion has been married in babyhood to Princess Ida, daughter of King Gama. The Princess, however, has set up a college for women from which all men are barred. Hilarion and his friends infiltrate the castle and ultimately the men, led by Hilarion’s father, King Hildebrand, stage a full scale invasion. Ida is abandoned by her women and finally surrenders to her Prince.
Godalming Operatic Society’s 2014 production of Princess Ida is sure to be a sparkling and colourful show with superb music and a witty libretto. The award winning team of Robin Wells (Musical Director) and Pat O’Connell (Stage Director) join forces once again for this production. So Princess Ida is sure to be a show of the highest quality with wonderful singing and music for all to enjoy. Evening performances at 7.30pm Saturday Matinee 2.30pm.
