Written after Iolanthe and before Mikado, therefore at the height of the authors' powers, it's a satire on gothic romanticism. Unusual in being in 3 acts, dialogue in blank verse, there are 10 major principal roles and weighty scenes for chorus - its fantasy world inspired Sullivan to some of his best music. The GLOC production will be semi-staged and accompanied by full orchestra.
