A Cornish fishing village, a reluctant villain, a virtuous maiden, a corps of professional bridesmaids and a picture gallery of ghostly ancestors – Gilbert and Sullivan make merry at the expense of Victorian melodrama in one of their most inventive creations.
When the modest, mild-mannered Robin Oakapple is revealed as the villainous Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, inheritor of the curse of Ruddigore which compels him to commit a crime each day, his romance with the faultlessly virtuous Rose Maybud looks doomed. But his troubles really start when he proves incapable of fulfilling the curse, and his ancestors' portraits begin to haunt him.
It’s all helped along with some of Sullivan’s finest music, including the humorous “Matter, Matter, Matter” trio and the spine-chilling “Ghost’s High Noon”. This sparkling new production moves the action to the roaring 1920s and promises to be a real treat for all the family!
