Following their smash-hit success with a fresh take on Patience, "the masters of G&S in small spaces" (CNJ) celebrate their ten year anniversary with a brand new 'Hammer Horror' production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore or The Witch's Curse. The most celebrated writers of comic opera's quirky spoof on melodrama, with mad damsels, villainous barons and a picture gallery of ghosts, is given a spark of electricity and plenty of punch in the way that only CCO can do. Expect "a sparklingly fresh package of pathos, foolery and high-class music making" (Opera Now), as well as the unexpected.
A stalwart of London's off-west-end, Charles Court Opera have been producing opera, music theatre and pantomime in London and on tour for 10 years, garnering rave reviews in the national press, described as "a must-see" by The Telegraph, and winning Broadwayworld's "Funniest show of the year" last season for their 'Boutique Panto' at the Rosemary Branch Theatre.
They are one of the leading lights in the recent reinvigoration of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, and this new production will be directed by the company's artistic director John Savournin (one of the "finest G&S actor/directors of the present day" - Daily Express) and musically directed by David Eaton from the piano.
Featuring a first-rate cast of nine CCO favourites, this special anniversary production is not to be missed.
With Susie Buckle, Matthew Kellett, Philip Lee, Cassandra McCowan, Rebecca Moon, Amy J Payne, John Savournin, Andrea Tweedale and Simon Masterton-Smith.
