Joanna Hoty Russell has been a featured performer and director with Light Opera of New Jersey for over 15 years. Many roles include: Buttercup [HMS Pinafore], Pitti-Sing, Katisha (cover)[The Mikado] Edith, Kate, Ruth (cover) [Pirates of Penzance], Tessa [The Gondoliers], Mad Margaret [Ruddigore]. Muzzy [Thoroughly Modern Millie], Domina [Funny Thing Happened…..], Vi Moore [Footloose], Miss Electra [Gypsy], Prince Orlofsky [Die Fledermaus], 2nd Lady [The Magic Flute], The Child [L’Enfant et les Sortileges], Hänsel [Hänsel & Gretel], Cherubino [Le Nozze di Figaro]. Directing credits include: Amahl and the Night Visitors and Lovin’ Cole, an Original Cabaret.
Currently she is the Assistant Director for a production of The Gondoliers [Oct. 10, 11, 12 & 16, 17, 18].
Joanna maintains a private voice studio in Murray Hill, NJ and is the Alto Soloist and Section Leader at St. Peter’s Church in Essex Fells, NJ. In May, 2014, Joanna was appointed the Music Director of The Larks, a volunteer singing group [sponsored by the Junior League of Summit, NJ]. Additionally, she is a member of The Early Music Players of New Jersey, a chamber ensemble specializing in music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Eras, having recorded three CD’s [Flights of Fancy; A Wreath of Carols; and Birds, Bards, and Bawds].
